Team Cafferky Now Offering Persona IQ®, the World’s First and Only Smart Knee Implant for Total Knee Replacement Surgery
VAIL, COLORADO, July 8, 2022 - Dr. Nathan Cafferky and Vail-Summit Orthopaedics & Neurosurgery (VSON) are proud to announce that they now offer Persona IQ®, the world’s first and only smart knee implant granted De Novo status by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for total knee replacement surgery.
Developed by Zimmer Biomet, Persona IQ combines the proven and trusted knee implant, Persona® The Personalized Knee®, with implantable sensor technology that measures range of motion, step count, walking speed, and other gait metrics.
Last month, Dr. Cafferky and his team performed the first smart knee implant at VSON.
“We are proud to offer Persona IQ, the world’s first smart knee implant, to our patients considering knee replacement surgery,“ says Dr. Cafferky. “This new innovation provides us with access to objective kinematic data directly from the implant post-surgery.”
Persona IQ features implantable sensor technology that records and wirelessly transmits a wide range of gait data from the knee implant to a patient’s personal base station at home. The data is then securely delivered to a HIPAA compliant cloud-based platform and can be accessed by the patient and their surgeon.
Coupled with the Zimmer Biomet's mymobility® app, a patient engagement platform that tracks pre- and post-operative mobility metrics, patients will be able to receive support and guidance throughout their surgery preparation and recovery process. The app provides patients with helpful reminders, progress reports, and video exercises.
