Knee Replacements

A knee arthroplasty, or total knee replacement, is a surgical procedure to repair and replace a knee joint damaged by arthritis or trauma. Candidates also include patients who have experienced a severe knee injury.

The deteriorated bone and cartilage are removed and replaced by an implant made of metal and plastic parts. The new knee implant caps the ends of the bones that form the knee joint, along with the kneecap.

This procedure resurfaces the damaged parts of the joint and relieves chronic knee pain.

Total Hip Replacements

The goal of a hip replacement is to reduce pain and restore your hip function. During surgery, the damaged bone and cartilage in the hip joint are replaced with an implant that recreates the ball and socket of a healthy hip.

Most hip replacement patients are able to walk within the same day or next day of surgery; most can resume normal routine activities within the first 3 to 6 weeks of their total hip replacement recovery. Once light activity becomes possible, patients can incorporate healthy exercise into their recovery program.

ROSA Robotic Knee Replacement

Dr. Cafferky and his team are proud to offer robotic knee replacements using the ROSA® Knee System. ROSA Knee supports Dr. Cafferky by assisting with the bone resections and assessing the state of the knee's soft tissues during surgery.

The precision of robotic-assisted knee replacement surgery allows for more accurate implant positioning, reduced risk of injury to surrounding tissues, and smaller incisions. Thanks to ROSA Knee, Dr. Cafferky's patients report a more natural feeling after surgery and quicker recovery times with less pain.

Arthritis

Arthritis comes in several forms, but the most common are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. While osteoarthritis causes the breakdown of cartilage and bone, rheumatoid arthritis causes inflammation in the lining of the joint.

Both osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis can cause chronic pain, stiffness, swelling, bone loss, and instability in the joint. There is no cure for arthritis, but conservative treatments are available to help manage symptoms. Once nonsurgical methods stop having an impact, it may be time to consider joint replacement surgery.
